Meditation, Sadness, and Processing - 26oct22

Photographs in Yoga Journal display models in the lotus position with blissful expressions on their beautiful faces. A promise is inferred that similar delights await us.

And yet our mindfulness (vulnerable, passive, visceral, and spontaneous) could run face first into the unyielding brick wall of sorrow and its accompanying memories, imaginings, and confabulations.

Due to one of evolution’s happy coincidences each exhalation accesses our parasympathetic nervous system supporting our physical relaxation and mental release. This is how we process the sorrow that could be excavated by our sympathetic nervous system during our inhalations; and also how we meditate like a Jedi!
