Sorrow and Health - 17sep21

Vince Lombardi taught

“Fatigue makes cowards of us all.”

And our friends at alcoholics anonymous teach

that hunger, annoyance, solitude, and fatigue

can trigger our brainstem’s addictions.

Peer-reviewed studies

have taught that depression

is the body’s response to inflammation,

an evolutionary safety measure

to make sure that the ill get sufficient rest

and that the infected do not contaminate others.

Neither sorrow nor depression

are spiritual indictments,

although they can offer a valuable critique

of our diet and lifestyle.

Therefore let us not dismiss sorrow ham-handedly

as Yoda dismissed Anakin’s portentous concerns

for Padme’s death.

Let us conclude

with a simple

call to action

In the Tibetan tradition Lamas are supported

not by monasteries but by students

as such the production of these livestreams,

blogs, and class materials is supported

by the generosity of viewers, and listeners, and readers

just like you.
