Thoughts, Peace, and Meditation - 9feb23

If you are new to meditation you may have been erroneously taught that it is all about forging peace THROUGH the subjugation of our racing thoughts. Although the execution of such intellectual gymnastics could be invigorating and its completion could even feel refreshing that whole shebang could be reminiscent of the fellow who deliberately wore shoes a size too small because it felt so good when he took them off.

Contrary to the ravings of meditation teachers: rigid, controlling, and lazy-minded; the true purpose is to make peace WITH the ever changing features of mind, all its: perceptions, emotions, intentions, thoughts, memories, and imaginings be they glorious or grotesque. This is done through the clever utilization of our autonomic nervous system as well as our prefrontal cortex that together make possible mindfulness, meditation, and contemplation.
